The Centre has a strong commitment to developing, delivering and evaluating education programs that are targeted at health professionals who wish to further their knowledge and skills in palliative care.
Postgraduate options include:
The Specialist Certificate in Palliative Care, which is a multi-disciplinary course that aims to be the industry standard for health professionals working in palliative care. Accredited by the University of Melbourne, the course explores the core concepts of palliative care including practice standards, symptom management, communication skills, evidence-based practice, non-cancer contexts, psychosocial issues, bereavement care, and care and support for carers.
The Graduate Certificate in Palliative Care, has been developed as part of a strategy to offer a range of education programs in palliative care. Extending the scope of the Specialist Certificate in Palliative Care, it explores core concepts, including pain and symptom management, the interface between aged care and palliative care, communication skills, evidence based practice, non-malignant illnesses, and many more.
Our multi-disciplinary short courses and seminars cover a range of topics such as pain and symptom management, therapeutic communication, ethics, bereavement support and psychosocial care. The Centre has the capacity to deliver one-off, customised seminars, which can be arranged upon request.
Programs also target the education and professional development needs of specific sectors of the health care workforce. These include the development, support and mentorship of palliative care nurse practitioner candidates via the Victorian Palliative Care Nurse Practitioner Collaborative (funded by the Department of Health), and the Victorian Palliative Medicine Training Program, which provides a structured, specialist training and internship program for doctors.
