This is an 18-month project, which commenced in February 2008.

Purpose:

The aims of this project are to (1) identify the current end-of-life care patterns for COPD patients and (2) identify similarities and differences compared to patients who die from cancer.

Methods:

The project aim is to examine the patterns of hospitalisation and circumstances of death of patients with COPD. This project consists of an epidemiological examination of the patterns of hospitalisation of patients who die with COPD compared to patients who die with cancer, and patients who are hospitalised with COPD but do not die.
