Duration:
This is a 12-month project commencing in October 2010.
Purpose:
This project will develop a Victorian palliative care bereavement framework with associated clinical guidelines through a review of existing key documents and literature to ensure a strong evidence base to bereavement support within palliative care services. The project will provide advice and consensus recommendations to the Palliative Care Clinical Network for state-wide implementation of the bereavement framework and guidelines to enhance clinical care and encourage best practice in the Victorian palliative care sector.
Method:
The project has three phases. Phase 1 plan to comprehensively document current bereavement services in the Victorian palliative care sector. Phase 2 will identify best practice bereavement care, including the development of a palliative care bereavement framework and best practice clinical guidelines. This will be undertaken through systematic literature review and expert opinion. Phase 3 will compare the results of Phase 1 and Phase 2 to determine strengths and weaknesses of existing bereavement services and provide recommendations to promote existing bereavement services to adopt best practice in the provision of bereavement care. These findings will be incorporated within the existing Palliative Care Capability Framework.
